Unit 2 Exam-Fantastic and Strange
Mari Mahr
Mari Mahr is a photographer who's work is mostly consisted around photography and photo editing, most of her photography is drawn from her life. I find her work interesting because alot of it is in black and white and her work is about editing and photos from around her local town. I also found one of her images inspiring for some of my own work. In the first image I can see that the artist has edited the image by blending together someones legs and a building together, the photo to me seems dull it seems to me like the skirt and the black shoes seem like a school uniform and is blended with a dull boarding school i find it very interesting how the artist has chosen to mix these two objects together and as they both have something in common. However i prefer the second image to the first one i like how the face and the treees have been blended together i can also see that the face has been sketched i also like the way the way you can see through the face and all trees can be seen in my opinion the image would look much more better if the face was faded into the white sky. These pictures related to the theme i chose because i decided to blend faces with buildings like this artists has done only this time she has decided to use nature to blend with her images. I have learned from looking at this artists work about the composition. |
Igor Morski
Igor Morski is a graphic designer, his pieces of work mostly consist of graphic and media art he also known for his works in 3D. Some of his works have been published in leading polish magazines, he is also a co - owner of a graphic design studio called Morski Studio. Above are two of his images that i have chosen and find most to my liking. in the first image i can see how he has decided to cover a slight piece of the face with a green colour this makes the image stand out from the rest of the image, he has also decided to make the image double exposure to give the image more of an effect this works well because it catches the viewers eyes. In the second image the artist has also used a simmalar idea but has decided to focus more on the eyes of the face and has also added blood to the eyes this makes the image to look more meaningful and emotional both of these images seem to look surreal because of the double exposure the artist has used. The second images camera angle also is very close up. |
Penny Jensz
Penny Jensz is a painter but also uses mixed media
and other things such as photography as an artist.
i have chosen to evaluate the image below of hers
because i liked the fact that she used a before and
after shot for this photo, it seems to me like the artist
has chosen to show what the elderly man looks like
now and after she has decided to make him look more abstract in the second image i also like the way she has edited the second shot on photoshop this makes the technique look even more well done it seems she has slowly and carefully placed the elements on the mans face. The persons mood seems a little unhappy.

Jerry Uelsmann
The best pieces of work made by Jerry uelsmann are his "hand" images i find those admirable because he has thought of an original idea and mixed it with another great idea, i like the way he has combined a lovely looking setting and put it into something so normal and human. Most of his work evolves around natural things eg rivers, seas, oceans. He also manages to capture and blend his images well.In the first image the artist has also decided to blend clouds. In the second image the artist has done the same thing and blended a hand with the sea and he has also captured the clouds with the blended picture this makes the image stand out even more as the background image of the sea is fitted in well with the hand. The composition of the image is also right in the middle which makes the picture interesting.

Final Piece
Final evaluation
I decided to choose fantastic and strange because i new i would be able to expand my ideas more easier and be able to use my critical thinking skills by being able to explore in my own ways what fantastic and strange really is, i new that there was no wrong way of exploring fantastic and strange and that i would be able to do it my own way and be able to use my own ideas from anywhere.
My first idea for my unit 2 exam was to explore different the work of my chosen artist's research, i looked at Mari Marah's work and how she blended faces with other things such as naturalistic themes however i decided to blend my faces with buildings from there i then expanded my ideas by creating my own for example i saw Igor Morski's photographs and how he decided to use double exposure faces this then gave me a idea to use faces for my final experiment for the unit 2 exam. Some of the investigations i had created for this unit have been used by an ipod and i used an app called "Blender" i decided to blend faces with buildings, sky's, and objects the idea came from a selection of artists from my chosen them which i decided to influence my work on. My ideas started developing furthermore by me researching more artists and looking at there works of images. I only used one photo for my final piece and just edited them by using photoshop.
My first experiment i carried out was of a person posing and just using her face, at first i was going to use just one technique in photoshop then i decided to expand my idea by using 4 different effects these effects were made by using the app "blender" i printed the images at A4 size i then mounted the images and placed them right next to each other and the first shot on the 4 of my images i decided to make black and white using photoshop, the second shot i then blended with the sky the composition of the sky over the face worked well because it captured the right angle of her eye. The third shot of my final piece i decided to keep the same because i wanted to show how different each of the images looked to each other. For my final piece my first resource i used was an ipod to take the photograph
i then uploaded them on to photoshop and started developing the images even more by adding the effects like double exposure, black and white, and adding some colour to them. Throughout taking my images i started to
refine them by over looking them and seeing what was wrong with them.
I started to record my ideas by making a spider web page from there i started typing ideas on what i could do for my final piece like editing, photoshop, and making them unusual and " fantastic and strange" i also recorded them by taking more images and evaluating other artists work this helped me because it made me refine them again and see what i could do much better and to see how i could improve my ideas and my evaluation skills. I then started to use photoshop but was not very confident with it at first but then after I started to grasp the concept of how to work it i also started to observe the way other people new how to work photoshop this then helped me understand how to use photoshop and how i learned to do this. Part of my unit 2 work before my final piece i took a variety of photographs using blender, these photographs had peoples faces and had been blended with objects i did this because it then helped me think about more ideas
of how i could come up with ideas for my final piece int he run up to my exam.
I decided to present my final piece because i felt it was a personal response to the theme, the idea of making it fantastic was that my images were all the same which made them unusual i then made each different image on my final piece a different effect which made them " strange ". I have then demonstraighted my ideas by researching and evaluating the artists for my chosen artists. I realised that i would need to plan out my final out come carefully in order for it to become successful however, in some of the work i have presented i don't think that some of it came out as well i didn't like some of the photographs i had produced for my research because some of them came out blurry which didn't satisfy . In my final piece i made some visual connections by responding to my chosen exam question they way
my final piece has a visual effect is that it demonstrate's that it has been edited by me using photo shop and adding different types of colour's. To me my final piece was a meaningful response because i had managed to use some emotional, natural, and abstract features in my final piece.
To a certain extent of my work i am some where satisfied as i have produced a final outcome for my final piece and used the
research i had evaluated on other artists as major influences.
